Jane has curated critically acclaimed exhibitions and programmes at the Victoria & Albert Museum and Royal Academy of Arts among many others internationally. Jane was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Westminster for services to the environment, and recently received Milan’s Design Prize for Experimentation.

Veenu Pasricha joined The AV Workshop in 1987 and worked as chief AV programmer. He set up A. V. Graphics Pvt. Ltd. in 1988. He comes from a family of 3 generations of photographers. A graduate of IIT Delhi, Veenu brings his technical and creative skills, not only in graphics and audio-visual production, but also in the design and programming of lights and the production of son-et-lumière (sound & light) shows.
At the age of 24, with only a camera and hand-held GPS unit, Anthony Acciavatti left New York City to map the most densely populated river basin in the world: River Ganga. Over the next decade, he began to obsessively record the cycles of the monsoons and the dynamism of Ganga, developing new ways of visualizing this iconic river basin.
Dr. Anthony Acciavatti is the author of Ganges Water Machine: Designing New India’s Ancient River (2015), the first comprehensive mapping and urban history of the Ganga River basin in over half a century. In 2016 the book was awarded the John Brinckerhoff Jackson Book Prize. Trained in architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard University and in the history of science at Princeton University, Dr. Acciavatti currently teaches at Yale University. He is a principal of Somatic Collaborative in New York.
On the one hand urban governance in India is not an established and recognized system as is the central government and state governments. Further because Urban governance could not attain the prominence and relevance it should have, data relating to a multitude of city functions is just not available in a transparent and open manner. Why is it that we do not have city GDP figures or status of city residents in a regular and continuing manner. Other than the census figures which become available once in ten years, how relevant is generation of data of a wide variety of urban matters and how it can influence better decision making at the city town/level. What could be the way forward to have reliable data about various aspects of city governance, Secretary Dr Ramachandran will be talking on these critical aspects at this webinar.

Any design involves a series of decisions. The success of a design depends on how well those decisions are made. Traditionally, most design decisions are made with the intuition based on the designer’s knowledge and sensibilities. However, they are increasingly being questioned about the basis of their decisions and are held accountable for the outcomes. As a result more and more designers look for evidence to support their decisions and articulate it to the stakeholders. When it comes to designing cities and built-environment, evidence based decision making assumes even more importance—it affects lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people over several decades. Geospatial is what they now rely on for these decisions.
Over 25-years in design and analysis of the built environment, Arvind has vast knowledge of sustainability and analysis with geo-spatial technologies. An urban technology professional, he helps urban planners and managers on sustainable urban development.
Ravi holds patents in areas as diverse as low cost robotics and frugal ventilators. He gives away these designs practically for free. He believes Technology and design must serve the person at the last mile – the most important person as believed by Mahatma Gandhi. In the technology centric world how do you apply advanced principles like Artificial Intelligence, robotics and advanced engineering design to solve the day-to-day problems of ordinary Indians has been the pursuit of my research and has yielded several products and patents. In my talk, I share this journey and ideas with the hope that it would ignite ideas and open fields of collaboration to use design and engineering for a self-reliant India.

Architect & Biodesigner, Shneel Malik is investigating ways in which our buildings, and our urban environments can perform biological systems such as photosynthesis. By designing at the intersection of architecture, biology and engineering, her projects are constructed from a novel living material. A material that supports the growth of microorganisms on a nanoscale, while allowing the fabrication of living, breathing systems on a macroscale. She challenges architecture to move one-step beyond the adoption of geometric forms that simply look like nature. But instead, an architecture that ‘performs’ like the systems in nature.
Today, new forms of thinking are required for imagining improvement of the world. Everyone is capable of multiple forms of thinking, multiple intelligences, and the design fields cultivate these new forms of thinking.
