At the age of 24, with only a camera and hand-held GPS unit, Anthony Acciavatti left New York City to map the most densely populated river basin in the world: River Ganga. Over the next decade, he began to obsessively record the cycles of the monsoons and the dynamism of Ganga, developing new ways of visualizing this iconic river basin.

Dr. Anthony Acciavatti is the author of Ganges Water Machine: Designing New India’s Ancient River (2015), the first comprehensive mapping and urban history of the Ganga River basin in over half a century. In 2016 the book was awarded the John Brinckerhoff Jackson Book Prize. Trained in architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard University and in the history of science at Princeton University, Dr. Acciavatti currently teaches at Yale University. He is a principal of Somatic Collaborative in New York.
