He was the chief architect of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission as Secretary, Urban, Government of India. For his work in infrastructure he was called “The Infrastructure Man” on deputation to UNDP.

He was Chairman, Delhi Metro and Kochi Metro and holds a PhD from University of Glasgow, UK.
